Mike Johnson is no Moses

Alright. When Mike Johnson the United States Speaker of the House must say out loud to the press that he likens himself to Moses, I just have to say some things because he clearly doesn’t know who Moses was.

Moses was saved from a basket in the river by Ramses’ wife. He was raised as an Egyptian. Secular schooling, worship of idols and the whole bit. He was highly thought of as an intellectual with incredible leadership skills. It seems clear that Moses was brought up this way because when God wanted to lead the people out of slavery to Egypt, he thought about the reality that he would need a self actualized human to do the job and not a traumatized but faithful slave.

Jewish people in captivity were forced into slavery. There was no education for them, entirely uneducated and ignorant of life beyond survival. They owned nothing. They had no experiences of individuality or personal power. There would have been no one among them capable of standing up to the Pharaoh. Think about their physical bodies. Everyone would have flinched at the crack of the whip or a shout from a guard. Moses was likely never even hit or heard a raised voice.

Nutrition – prenatal care and the nurture of childhood would have been severely limited if you were a Hebrew slave. Moses however would have been well fed, regularly bathed and taken care by equally cared for others. His social life was likely full of interesting people and a variety of experiences designed to instruct him in relationships. Moses was by blood a Hebrew but his entire life was Egyptian. I believe that the reason Moses was able to lead his blood relatives out of bondage had a lot more to do with the man he grew into rather than simply the divine acts of intervention.

Mike Johnson is not anywhere near the man Moses was. Whether you believe in a literal Red Sea opening up or that it is metaphorical, the lessons are the same. Speaker Mike Johnson is one of the weakest politicians I have ever listened to. He speaks and utters almost no original thought. He most often can be heard simply repeating back to his audience the words from Evangelical teachers Bill Gothard and David Barton. He has swallowed whole The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 and is a fan boy of TPUSA etc. The reality is this. Nothing he says comes from his own mind. He is utterly terrified to stand on his own. And Moses of the Old Testament? He never was.

I imagine the Speaker enjoyed a healthy America upbringing like mist who enter political life here. So that would be similar to Moses. But what Mike would not have learned from his privilege that Moses most certainly had was intellectual responsibility and a sense of how thinking for himself would mature him as a leader, Christian or otherwise. Mike Johnson, like so many conflict aversive Christian believers, was taught to be a passive learner. Obedience to authoritarian instructors without question was the gold standard for him growing up. As a result, he cannot perceive himself as a leader equal to the President. A perspective that being third in line to the office requires.

Were Mike Johnson called out for a mission that would take him, like Moses, out of step with all he has ever known, he would, like Moses have to abandon all he actually had ever known! He would have to be his own man before his own God. He is so clearly not that man and has no sense of who that would be. He simply cannot embody the responsibility of having the power a man like Moses had. He cannot because he is continually looking foe and receiving affirmation by those he perceives are in authority above him. A good born again southern Christian stays under God’s divine umbrella of authority and then trusts God to “part the sea” if necessary. Even when God does not.

I do not believe any sea will part for the current House Speaker because he is simply not a self actualized man capable of leadership. He is instead merely the House manager. He is just a Christian man whose knows himself to be favored under Donald Trump’s umbrella of authority and in that capacity his only task is stay under that authority and please the President. That is it.
